Why I’m Trying the 5AM Club

Let me be real with you.
I’m not a morning person. At all. I’ve fought with alarms, snoozed them into submission, and have absolutely no shame in saying that 8AM sometimes feels like a personal attack. But lately, I’ve been hearing about this book, The 5AM Club by Robin Sharma, and how it’s changing lives. So, curiosity got the best of me—and I dove in.
And let me tell you: this book is something else.
The 5AM Club in a Nutshell
Robin Sharma isn’t asking you to just wake up early for fun. He’s saying that waking up at 5AM and owning that first hour of your day can literally change your life. Sounds dramatic, I know. But after reading the book (and let’s be honest, skimming some parts), the logic actually makes sense.
He breaks it down using the 20/20/20 formula:
20 mins of Movement (sweat, dance, do jumping jacks, anything)
20 mins of Reflection (journal, pray, meditate, breathe)
20 mins of Growth (read, listen to a podcast, feed your brain)
Simple enough, right?
So Why Am I Doing This?
Because I need a reset. Because being busy isn’t the same as being productive. Because I’m juggling a business, family, advocacy work, and still trying to find time to breathe.
I realized I need my own time—before the emails, the calls, the to-do lists, the requests, and the “Mommyyyyyy” start rolling in. And 5AM? That’s the only time nobody wants anything from me. Just peace. Just space.
What’s It Like So Far?
Let’s not sugarcoat it—day one was rough. But after I moved my body (okay, I walked from the bedroom to the kitchen and did some stretches), I sat down, journaled for 5 minutes, and sipped my tea. Then I read a few pages of a book I’ve been “trying” to finish for months. And guess what?
By 6AM, I felt like Superwoman… with frizzy hair, but still. I had already done more for me than I had all week.
Why You Might Want to Try It Too
If you’re:
Tired of waking up and immediately being pulled in ten directions
Struggling to stay consistent with self-care
A woman who’s always doing for others and forgetting herself...then The 5AM Club might just be the game-changer you didn’t know you needed.
You don’t have to do it forever. Start with 3 days. Then 5. Then see how you feel.
Final Thoughts (with Love and Realness)
I’m not here to convince you to join some cult of early risers who bounce out of bed singing. I’m just saying: sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself is wake up before the world gets loud.
Try it. Set your alarm. Set your intentions. Set your tea from the night before if you have to. Your peace is worth it.
